Here's To Girlfriends

Open QuoteWe're all concerned, intelligent, good women. It's just that I feel stranded. and I thought the whole point was that we wouldn't feel stranded. I thought the point was we were all in this together.Closed Quote

Welcome to my world!

After years of trying to figure it out, I think I finally know what I bring to the planet. It’s not a cure for cancer or a plan to eradicate poverty, but it is what I do best — bring people (especially women) together. There are certain “universal truths” (a concept I learned from my high school English teacher, Mrs. Evans) and commonalities that bond us together. I’m hoping to explore many of them on the pages of this website and in an e-bulletin to women in Southern Nevada — and maybe beyond!

I’d like to say that this idea is a lifelong dream that’s finally come true. As a matter of fact, it came to me one night while I was watching an episode of Gray’s Anatomy. I’ve become addicted to that show because of the intriguing female characters. In one episode the character played by Sandra Oh was struggling with the fact that her “boyfriend” (her word, not mine) had proposed marriage and given her a diamond engagement ring (it was a big diamond.) Finally she gave the ring back and said, “I don’t do rings. We’re both going to be surgeons. We can afford to hire a wife.” He was obviously confused but I totally got it — don’t you? He stammered, “Does this mean you will marry me — or not?” Duh!

Almost every working woman I know wishes she could “hire a wife”. Even the ones who aren’t married! It’s one of those universal truths. (BTW, they are called “personal assistants” and you can definitely hire one.) That’s when I decided that we are more alike than we are different, and that I have the resources to bring us all together.

Here’s to my girlfriends!

You know who you are. The ones I call to celebrate a success or to mourn a tragedy. The friends I’ve known for 30 years and the ones I met last week.

Here’s to all the wonderful women in Southern Nevada who deserve a home page — a place to find events, to dish, to bitch (did I say that!?). This is your spot to vent or to crow. Just remember, it’s my website and I control all the content. Don’t send me anything self-serving. I hate that! On the other hand, if you’re happy and you know it clap your hands, and allow the rest of us to applaud you, too.

What’s it all about?

It’s all about you. It’s all about what being a girlfriend really means. It’s about your serious side and your frivolous side, your left and right brain, your physical attributes and your spirituality - everything that makes you a whole woman. It’s about reaching out to women who may not be fortunate enough to have girlfriends. There will be links — lots of links — to websites and blogs. And a calendar of events for women in and around the Las Vegas Valley. Use the contact button above to send me your news. As time goes on, we’ll get a little more structured — but not a lot.

Who am I?

Maybe you already know. I sent an email invitation to a huge list of women I’ve met at meetings and mixers. If not, here’s my story.
